Which Projection Screen is Best for My Event?
Mar 01, 2016 by Anonymous

Many business meetings, presentations, speakers, sessions, and corporate events rely on projection screens to provide primary or secondary images. Whether these images are the main focus of a presentation or if they’re simply helping to set the stage by adding a visual element to a speaker’s message, projection screens have long been a popular favorite for event planners and corporate meeting organizers. Screens and projectors are the long-running technology favorite for PowerPoint presentations, but these economical, portable, lightweight screens are remarkably versatile.

Projection Screens Can Create or Enhance:

* Conference Sets

* Staging and Scenery

* Backdrops

* Exhibition Stands

* Trade Show Booths

* Ambient Lighting

How to Choose a Projection Screen

When choosing a projection screen for you event’s unique setting and presentation requirements, there are a few simple questions that help begin the process.

Should You Choose a Front or Rear Projection Screen? While front projection is the most popular option, rear projection screens have their advantages in certain settings. Front projectors are more manageable, easier to set-up, and they work well for any setting. Rear projectors need a dedicated space behind the screen, so their set-up takes more time and consideration; however, rear projection screens can lead to better picture quality and a sharper image overall.

What Size Projection Screen is best for Your Needs? First, measure the ceiling height in your event space. According to our experts, the ceiling height is the first dimension that will help determine screen height, screen width, and the position of the projector or projectors. The screen should be at least 36 inches off the floor, and it’s recommended that the screen is at least 24 inches from the ceiling. Within these parameters, a screen size calculator can help establish the ideal screen based on basic room dimensions, viewing angles, image format, and the maximum viewing distance. What are the Different Projection Screen Shape Options? Aspect ratio is defined as width to height (W:H). The options are as follows:

* 1:1 – Square is often used for presenting data.

* 4:3 – Standard Definition (also called NTSC or Academy) is based on the original television and computer monitor aspect ratios and is less used now, but still available.

* 16:9 (or 1.78:1) – High Definition (also known as HDTV or widescreen) is the new standard aspect ratio in the US and is the native ratio for all HD projectors.

* 2.35:1 or 2.40:1 – Both ratios are called “CinemaScope.” These aspect ratios are designed specifically for cinema requirements.

What Other Screen Options Should Be Considered? Projection screens are either fixed or retractable. A projection screen MUST have perfect tension; for retractable screens, a tensioned or “tab tensioned” screen will help ensure that the projection surface is taut and stable when lowered. Another consideration for retractable screens is whether they are lowered manually or by a remote-controlled motor.

The two most popular manual screen options are Fast Fold screens and Tripod screens. Fast-fold projection screens are an excellent choice for larger rooms or for user sessions. Tripod projection screens are a good option for smaller rooms and breakout sessions. A qualified event technology specialist can give the best advice based on your specific event needs!
