SmartSource Computer & Audio Visual Rentals Keeps Going Greener

SmartSource Computer & Audio Visual Rentals, one of the nation’s leading providers of computer, audio visual (AV) and trade show technology rentals and services, is continuing to be “greener” and has been able to improve its overall recycling efforts in the first quarter of 2013.

Company-wide, recycling of cardboard, paper and electronic waste is at approximately 20% of its total waste stream. This is a big improvement over last year when the company was at 10% recycling. With the corporate mandate of all cardboard and e-waste recycling, this has had a significant impact on SmartSource Rental’s ability to reduce landfill waste. Only an estimated 10% of all businesses recycle, so for SmartSource Rentals to have recycled over 22 tons of waste in Q1 2013, the company has made a very significant impact on its own. Additionally, SmartSource Rentals has seen a reduction in its overall waste, attributed to its efforts to reduce how much waste is generated, to recycle more and to obtain product from “greener” vendors.

Cardboard/Paper:        44,000 lbs.

Electronics:                   1,000 lbs.

This is in addition to its recycling success in 2012; a record year in terms of participation and total pounds recycled:

The number of SmartSource offices participating nationally is 19 out of 21 and the company hopes to have all offices on board by the end of 2013.

SmartSource Rentals also continues to make strides in having a more energy-efficient fleet of vehicles. The company’s fleet is now made up of almost 40% diesel-powered Dodge and Mercedes Benz Sprinters. This is an increase of nearly 10% over the past 12 months.

Reducing its waste and managing its carbon footprint, while creating comfortable, sustainable workplaces continue to be high priorities for SmartSource Rentals.

SmartSource Names Brian Schiels as Director of Exhibition Sales

SmartSource , a Total Technology Provider and integrator for tradeshows, professional conferences and general technology needs, has named Brian D. Schiels as Director, Exhibition Sales. He is charged with driving business opportunities in the trade show infrastructure sector.  Schiels brings to the role in-depth experience and expertise relating to exhibition, booth building, and event marketing, along with broad general business management experience across key disciplines of sales, strategic planning, business alliance, product innovation and customer development.

According to Jeffrey Byrne, Vice President, Sales for SmartSource, “Brian is a great addition to our team. His extensive background in the exhibition sector, enhanced by his business insights and hands-on operations experience, is certain to be valued by our clients.”

Directly prior to joining SmartSource, Schiels served as Vice President, Client Relations-East with Global Experience Specialists, Inc. (GES), a Viad Corp. (NYSE: VVI), headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. In this role, Schiels had direct P&L responsibility for a significant portfolio and six regional teams. His accomplishments during his tenure with GES included: developing a new business plan which yielded a year-over-year revenue increase, developing a strategic RFP team and leading the company’s regional efforts to capture high margin clients.

In addition to his position at GES, Schiels career includes his role as President and General manager,  New York Region for Exhibitgroup/Giltspur, Inc., a Viad Corp. (NYSE: VVI), where he exceeded  revenue plans. He also served with the Thomas F. Byrne Organization, Inc, located in Saddle Brook, New Jersey as Vice President – General Manager, developing and implementing a strategic business and marketing plan.

Schiels holds an MBA in Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Bachelor of Science in Management from St. John’s University.

He resides in Old Bridge, New Jersey.
