2010 MPIGNY Awards & Installation Celebration

Meeting Professionals and Industry peers throughout the Greater New York area will be gathering at Tribeca Rooftop on June 23, 2010, for the MPIGNY 2010 Annual Awards & Installation Celebration. The event will include Dinner, Entertainment and Induction of the 2010-2011 Board of Directors. Ken Edwards (National Account Executive, SmartSource Rentals) will be inducted as the President-Elect for MPIGNY for 2010-2011.

Edwards has been actively involved in Meeting Professionals International for almost 30 years, holding multiple leadership positions throughout the years. Currently he is Vice President of Finance for MPIGNY. He credits the organization as playing a key role in his professional development and career advancement with SmartSource Rentals, where he has been top sales executive for the past five years.

SmartSource Rentals has a number of professionals in other MPI chapters across the U.S. in addition to MPIGNY. The shared values of a tight-knit group like MPI complements the commitment SmartSource has to providing the highest quality service and technology solutions to clients in every community and industry. Ken Edwards nominated MPIGNY President-Elect

For over 28 years, Ken Edwards has been actively involved with Meeting Professionals International. Since becoming a member in 1982, he has held a variety of leadership positions within the organization, leading up to his recent nomination as President-Elect of Meeting Professionals International of Greater New York (MPIGNY). MPIGNY is one of the largest MPI chapters in the world, with a vision to build a global meetings industry community of meeting and event professionals in New York City & Long Island. Edwards will be assuming the position of President-Elect on July 1, 2010 and will then become President the following year.

“I have been involved in the meeting and convention industry since 1978,” said Edwards. “One of the best professional decisions I made was to become a member of the Meeting Professionals International. The organization has been key in helping me develop my skill set, build my brand and build the brand of my company, SmartSource Computer & Audio Visual Rentals.” He continued, “MPI members are a close-knit group of professionals who share common values of continuing education and professional development so that we can provide the highest quality of service to our clients.”

Outside of MPIGNY Edwards has proven himself to be top achiever in other areas as well. For the last five years he has been recognized as the top sales executive at SmartSource Computer & Audio Visual Rentals, where he is currently a National Account Executive. He has completed multiple marathons and is a competitive runner and cyclist.

MPI Networking Events - Tonight in Chicago

SmartSource is  excited to be working with MPICAC (Meeting Professionals International Chicago Area Chapter) on two simultaneous culturally inspired networking events going on in the Chicago area tonight. Members are invited and encouraged to register and attend these dynamic events at either of the two locations.

SmartSource Rentals is going to be providing some our technology expertise and equipment at these events with the goal of helping educate MPI members on social networking sites and how they can be applied to their events. Each location will also be able to see the other during the event through two ustream webcasts as well - very cool! Trade Show Internet helped make this possible by enabling the events to get online as internet is available at either venue.  We’ll be using 4G cards in each location.

New Metrolines Magazine is out!

The September/October issue of Metrolines is out and if you haven’t picked it up yet or had a chance to read it - here’s a quick peak at some of the topics covered in the recent issue. Metrolines is published by MPIGNY (Meeting Professionals International Greater New York Chapter) and is a tremendous resource for Meeting Professionals. We’d also like to give a shout out to SmartSource’s very own Ken Edwards (Vice President of Finance for MPIGNY) who is featured on the cover this time around, along with some of the other meeting professionals who all work hard to make this magazine and a variety other events and resources possible.

Jennifer Weaver new Director of Publications for SFMPI

Jennifer Weaver has been installed as the Director of Publications for the South Florida Chapter of MPI.  In her new role, she is responsible for the news content in both, the chapter e-newsletter, Tropic Topics, as well as Florida Connects Magazine, a Joint Publication of MPI’s Florida chapters.  Jennifer has been a member of MPI since 1994 and is currently an Account Executive with SmartSource Computer & Audio Visual Rentals.
