The advancement of LED technology has given those in the events industry the ability to create high-quality displays with stunning visuals and remarkable versatility. The brightness and seamlessness provided by LED tiles imparts a vibrancy that captivates audiences and makes a greater impression than video walls. From graphically engaging booth signage to high-impact walls to dynamic product display and jaw-dropping presentations, the availabil ity of a such a vast array of LED displays and tiles can make the possibilities seem endless.
But with an abundance of choices often comes confusion. How do you select the right LED display technology for your event? There are several things to consider, including venue, audience, content, and environment when determining screen size, resolution, and structure.
Screen size will often be dictated by location, crowd size, and what content you wish to display. Most experts agree that with 500 viewers or more, you’ll need a screen of at least 17 feet or wider in order to create the ideal visual influence. LED displays are ideal for large-format, high-impact visual experiences, since they have no bezels and can therefore be tiled together to construct a completely seamless video wall.
Resolution or Pixel Pitch
Pixel pitch, also referred to as resolution, can be defined as the density of LED (Light Emitting Diode) spacing. If your audience will be positioned close to your LED display, you’ll want a high density of LEDs, while a lesser concentration is required for audiences at a greater distance. Your content will also impact what type of resolution you’ll require, as maximum screen resolution is necessary when presenting numbers, data, and other information your viewers will need to read.
The most popular resolution today is 3.9MM, which is ideal for a minimum viewing distance of 10 to 15 feet. Outdoor venues require larger tiles that are waterproof. For audiences positioned at a greater distance, you should consider elevating your display for optimum viewing.
When you want to customize a display to suit your specific needs and available space, small LED tiles can be pieced together and built out on site using trussing. From simple 2×2 grids, to large stage backdrops, to tunnels and a wide variety of other shapes, video walls can be configured for almost any exhibit environment. For many events, ground support is a wise choice for your LED display, as it provides the footing necessary to have the tiles extend all the way to the floor. This is often the easiest and most cost-effective way to build a large LED display, and it makes for an efficient use of space since it only requires a maximum of three feet from the back of the panel to the ground support.
Budget-conscious event planners request estimates for LED walls as well as video walls so they can compare costs. They often find that the cost for an LED wall is about the same or less, since two people are required to assemble video walls and LED tiles can in most cases be set up by just one person. Rear projection is another option customers consider, but it is eliminated in situations where there are obstacles and limited space. Moreover, LED tiles can often cost the same or even less than rear projection.
